Bob Quigley

From tying to guiding, teaching to writing, Bob Quigley has done it all in his 35 years in the business. Though even today, most anglers are more likely to pick one of his patterns out of lineup than his likeness. Throughout the 1970’s, his ability to translate on stream observation into innovative patterns quickly earned him a sought after reputation on California’s Fall River. Patterns such as his Quigley Cripple, Hackle Stacker, and Loopwing Paradun, drew spring creek aficionados to the area to learn from him and stock their fly boxes.

Today, his patterns have become the answer for difficult trout everywhere. Bob continues to embrace his “always learning” philosophy into every pattern and every day on the water. He calls Ashland, Oregon home and when not at the vise, spends considerable time chasing trout and steelhead on our local waters. Lucky for us, Bob travels extensively conducting fly tying seminars, slide presentations, and shooting his DVD series.

On your next visit to the local fly shop, we highly recommend picking up a copy of his latest DVD, “Bob Quigley Signature Flies.” Bob returns to the Fall River and provides us with a lifetime of knowledge on mastering tough spring creek hatches and puts our SuperLite reels to the test on native rainbows on 7x tippet! From presentation techniques to tying his signature patterns, this footage will make you a better angler and tier.  more >>

  • Scott Howell

Scott Howell lives and breathes steelhead. Born and raised in Southern Oregon, his father, an avid steelheader and cane rod builder, passed on a love of the Rogue and Umpqua systems that carried over to rivers worldwide.

In his late teens, Scott began guiding the Rogue, which ultimately opened the doors for guiding and fishing opportunities few experience. From Northern California, throughout British Columbia, Southwestern Alaska, the Aleutian Peninsula, Kamchatka, Russia, and virtually any river that steelhead ascend, Scott has pioneered destinations, managed lodges or fished there.

Today, with two decades of guiding experience to draw from, Scott spends 300 days annually following the flow of the seasons and guiding several of Oregon’s rivers during prime time. A perfectionist, he continually refines technique and tackle to maximize the potential out of every situation.

However, Scott understands that ultimately, nothing happens without the fish. Therefore, he takes a hands-on approach to inform anglers about issues concerning the fisheries of Southern Oregon. He regularly updates his site with current information and urges everyone with a shared passion to serve as a voice for the conservation of wild steelhead.

Novice and experienced alike, single hand or spey, a day on the water with Scott makes any angler a better steelheader.  more >>

  • Jakob Lund

Born in Denmark, Jakob Lund spent his early fly fishing years pursuing sea-run brown trout and northern pike. In the late ‘80’s he traveled west to the United States as an exchange student and never left. Jakob quickly learned of Oregon’s north coast systems, the Deschutes River, and 20 years later, considers them his home waters.

Jakob splits his time between working the retail floor of Kaufmann’s Streamborn in Tigard, Oregon and guiding anglers on area rivers for steelhead and redband rainbows. Each September, he heads north to southwestern Alaska where he runs float trips on the Kanektok River for leopard rainbows and silver salmon.

Passionate about educating his customers on everything from selecting the right reel to reading the right water, Jakob’s technical tackle knowledge combined with his sixth sense on the river make him a sought after resource in the Pacific Northwest. And with over a decade of experience fishing and selling Bauer reels, he knows our product as well as the rivers he fishes: like the back of his hand.

  • Dave McCoy

Dave McCoy grew up amongst a family of fly fishers in Eugene, Oregon. Old photo albums chronicle trips taken with his father, grandfathers, and friends to rivers and lakes throughout the state. From the Deschutes and Umpqua Rivers to Crane Prairie and Davis Lakes, Dave’s childhood experiences fueled a life-long passion for fly fishing and the outdoors.

After several years of guiding anglers and coaching skiers throughout the Colorado Rockies, the lure of salmon, steelhead, and saltwater pursuits brought Dave back to the Pacific Northwest. In 1999 he founded Emerald Water Anglers in Seattle with a vision to provide the region with an outfitter that not only sets the industry standard, but also inspires and shapes the beliefs of others in the outdoors. His commitment to providing exceptional experiences caught on, as today, Dave works with a dozen local guides and books nearly one thousand days annually.

With nearly twenty years of guiding and traveling the world fly fishing, Dave’s dedication to the sport and profession is obvious: he still guides 150 days on anything from no name trout creeks to fabled steelhead rivers to albacore in blue water. He depends on his equipment to perform through conditions as varied as the environments he fishes. He depends on Bauer.  more >>
